Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
Highly reactive: emotions and events readily derail behavior and decision quality.
Stable inner anchor: emotions are acknowledged but do not hijack choices; the person preserves direction and clarity.
Functional in ordinary conditions, notably less stable under high-stakes loss-of-control scenarios.
Measure
Secondary: Recovery — speed of return to baseline after disruption.
