Who we are

This website, hestable.com, is operated by the Human Elements System project ("we", "us"). For anything in this policy, contact us at research@hestable.com.

The short version

This is a reference website. You can read everything on it without creating an account, and we do not run advertising, analytics trackers, or third-party marketing tools. We collect personal data in exactly two situations — when you write to us, and when you subscribe to updates — and we use it only for those purposes.

What we collect and why

Contact form: if you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address, subject, and message you submit; we use them solely to read and answer your enquiry. Newsletter: if you subscribe, we store your email address and use it solely to send occasional project updates; every email includes a way to unsubscribe, and unsubscribing removes your address from the list. Technical logs: our hosting infrastructure (Vercel Inc., USA) and storage provider (Supabase Inc., USA) may automatically log technical request data — such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested — as part of operating and securing any website; we do not use these logs to identify or profile visitors.

What we do not do

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes. We do not run advertising or cross-site tracking. We do not set tracking cookies. We do not profile visitors.

Cookies and local storage

The site may use your browser's local storage for interface preferences (such as light or dark mode). This information stays in your browser and is not transmitted to us.

Where data is processed

Our service providers (Vercel, Supabase, and our email provider) may process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. We keep the data we hold to the minimum described above.

How long we keep it

Contact messages are kept as long as needed to handle the enquiry and a reasonable period afterwards. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to research@hestable.com and we will respond. If you are in a jurisdiction that grants you additional statutory rights (such as the EU/EEA under the GDPR), those rights apply and we will honour them.

Children

The site is a general-audience scientific reference and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated date. Substantive changes will be noted in the site changelog.
