Definition

Execution accuracy and verification discipline that prevents small but consequential mistakes.

Poles

Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.

Low Pole

Frequent minor errors; weak checking; omissions.

High Pole

High accuracy; systematic verification; low error recurrence.

Reference

Careful in key parts; “tails” and small omissions persist.

Measure

Primary: Error rate.
Secondary: Accuracy.

Measuring Methods

Work-like tasks with traps → score errors and verification quality.

Empirical Anchor

Attention to detail / conscientiousness — order facet (Costa & McCrae, 1992); inspection skill; quality-control orientation.

Notes

Different from observational acuity: this is about production correctness and verification, not cue detection.
