Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
Weak interoceptive contact: notices overload late; ignores early cues; “wakes up” only after pain, errors, or a functional drop.
Early and accurate detection of bodily cues with timely adjustment of load, posture, breathing, and routines.
Good awareness in some channels with blind spots (e.g., tension or depletion).
Measure
Secondary: Responsiveness — degree to which detection leads to appropriate behavioral adjustment.
