Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
Anxiety drives avoidance, paralysis, or compulsive checking; task execution and decision quality degrade sharply.
Anxiety remains a signal—not a commander: acts, reality-checks, and adjusts course without being controlled by anxious impulses.
Manages everyday anxiety, but evaluative or socially risky contexts trigger avoidance or excessive checking.
