Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
Low anger propensity: anger is rarely activated; irritation remains mild and brief even under provocation.
High propensity: anger activates readily and frequently; irritation rises fast and strongly colors behavior.
Anger appears under substantial violations but is typically controllable.
Measure
Measuring Methods
• Diary: weekly anger/irritation episode frequency.
• Observation: rise speed under obstacles.
Empirical Anchor
Notes
• Risks at MIN: under-defending boundaries.
• Risks at MAX: toxicity, relationship damage, somatic tension.
